The Three Pressure Drills

1. The Clutch Putt

  • Setup: 10 putts from 3-6 feet
  • Pressure: Must make 8/10 to "win"
  • Consequence: If you miss, you "lose" and restart
  • Purpose: Trains your nerves to handle high-stakes putts

2. Tournament Simulation

  • Setup: Play 9 holes with full scoring
  • Pressure: Your score counts. Compete against yourself
  • Focus: Execute your pre-shot routine on every shot
  • Purpose: Simulates real tournament conditions

3. The Confidence Ladder

  • Setup: Progressive distances increasing in difficulty
  • Pressure: Build confidence by making shots
  • Sequence: Start easy, progress to tournament-level
  • Purpose: Builds mental toughness through success

Pre-Shot Routine: The Mental Anchor

Tour players use the same 15-20 second routine on every shot. This routine is your mental anchor under pressure.

Your Routine

  1. Stand behind ball, pick target
  2. Take 2-3 practice swings
  3. Address the ball
  4. Final look at target
  5. Commit and execute

Practice this routine 100 times in practice. So it's automatic under pressure.
